Hikurangi signs an MOU with Kaitiakitanga and Engineers without Borders

We’ve signed an MOU with two new partners - the Kaitiakitangi energy project team and Engineers without Borders. We’re working together to support Te Whanau-a-Apanui to develop their own renewable energy project in the Bay of Plenty.

As part of the project, the three partners are working together to host this year’s Odyssey Design Challenge, an annual competition for engineering students throughout New Zealand, run by Engineers without Borders New Zealand.

The competition will produce a number of potential energy solutions and detailed designs that the community and Hikurangi will assess as part of their work to create a scalable energy project, wholly owned and operated by the community.

Hikurangi is working with the Kaitiakitanga team to explore renewable energy models that will provide energy security, mitigate fuel poverty, create opportunities for new skills and jobs, and develop a sustainable revenue stream for the hapu.
