Approach

We work with early stage social enterprises to find scalable solutions to pressing sustainability challenges.

We work with ventures across New Zealand to provide them with the support they need to move from a great idea or limited scale to a point where they have a clear business model and are able to attract investment or become self-sustaining.

To reach this point, we provide:

  • direct management support – hands-on support and guidance to develop our ventures. We also broker new partnerships and opportunities for the ventures we work with.
  • strategic funding – flexible funding to cover critical start-up costs. This can include salaries, capital expenditure, capacity development and activities that will unlock additional funding.
  • professional services – our trusted network of Compass Network partners provide specialist expertise and pro-bono support to our ventures.

Supporting social enterprises makes sense to us as a vehicle for creating solutions to pressing sustainability challenges.

Often innovative and inspiring, social enterprises recycle finance and are commercially viable – so they have the potential to deliver both scalable and sustainable impact.

Once mature, they can also attract private investment from sources that project or traditional charity models cannot.

We’re working with partners across government, philanthropy, the business community and potential investors to grow understanding and develop pathways to support social enterprise in New Zealand.
